no cake? then forget it

My Mom will be 60 on Oct 6th....what a milestone! We decided to have a little early surprise bday celebration this past weekend. We didn't tell OG about it until Friday night for fear she would spill the beans. On the way to the event we were telling her about it...it was a BRUNCH event at 10am. She wanted to know when the cake would be served. I told her since it was kind of like a breakfast that there would be no cake...there would be yummy pastries and she could have those. She was not happy with that! She wanted CAKE. She told us that it was a bday and there was supposed to be cake and she didn't want to go if there was no cake.

OOPS! Oh well...we got her there...she forgot about the cake...she behaved and had fun...Mom was surprised and everyone had a great time! It was a HUGE buffet and OG ate...FRUIT! A few bites of other stuff but mostly FRUIT! Thank goodness we didn't include her in the head count! ;)

Last night she asked again about the cake....she said that her MeeMaw needed cake. So I guess Mom ,we will be getting you a cake on the 6th!! Like it or not!!!!! :)

observations by OG

"Those clouds look like smashed potatoes!" said OG on the way to school this AM...And they sure did...I never thought about that before. Cool, ha

And she also today wanted me to kiss and hug her in her room before she went out on the playground with her friends...I told her I would walk her out the door and then say BYE but NO...she wanted kisses and hugs INSIDE and wanted to open the door and walk out by herself. I thought that didn't happen till Middle School....made me a little sad. But it was cute all the same.

Choir Practice

I do have pix of this and yes, say it with me...they are trapped on the camera....but OG had her 1st choir practice at church last week on Wednesday. I was out of town for a work event but I was told she did well. She left with the group and went to the choir room and sang and did all the things she was supposed to do. Her first "performance" is October 12th at the Sunday service. And her next ones will OF COURSE be around Christmas when we will be in FL. The Sun the 21st one we will probably be able to make...we will just have to cut some visits short. The Wed Dec 24th (Christmas Eve) one we will definitely miss. OH WELL

Stay tuned for how this weeks choir practice goes!

The S word....I knew it was coming

Last night I was talking with OG about school. I asked her my usual "what did you do today?" and she came back with her usual" we played and everything". She says that EVERY time....not sure what that means...butI guess it means they did everything. OK

A few minutes later I asked her to do something that she did not want to do....and then again I asked her firmly to do it. She then proceeded to tell me that "we don't talk like that and we don't use those words". It was all I could do not to laugh. And then she finally did what I needed her to do. I then asked her about "those words" and what she meant by that. Apparently she does not like it when you are firm with her. I then asked her about other words that were bad. She then procedded to tell me that 2 boys in her class who I will call J & K use bad words. This peaked my interest. I wanted to know WHAT words. She was shy to tell me and didn't want to say the words for fear of getting in trouble. I told her it was OK just to whisper it to me. But she didn't want to tell me. So then I asked her what they sounded like. It took her a while but eventually she said it sort of sounded like:

SHUT

OH MY!! These kids are saying the S word? I couldn't believe it. Then she said "you don''t say THAT word...but you can say Shut Door". I agreed with her that yes, Shut Door is totally different and you can say that....but then she kept reminding me that you CAN'T say the other SHUT word...and I agreed, that yes, whatever word sounded like SHUT was not to be said and was not nice.

So then a minute later as I am asking her to explain this to Daddy (who also though it was sort fo funny but sort of shocking) she says something else. She says...."I will not say that word Mom. But you kow K&J do. They just say it all the time and get in trouble." Then she asks me if she can wisper the word to me b/c she was ready to tell me....I thought twice about this but I said "SURE, but just once". So she pulls me closer and whispers in my ear...and I am about to have a heartattack and laugh at the same time b/c I know my daughter is about to say the S word. That's when she says "The word is SHUT UP....that is the word we don't say...we can say Shut Door but NOT Shut UP, RIGHT MOM?"

SHUT UP? That is the bad word she was talking about? Shut Up? WHEEWH! What a relief. And yes, I again told her that that phrase/word was not nice...and she agreed. I still have my baby...for a while at least.

new breed of dog?

Did you know there was a new breed of dog? I was not aware...hadn't seen it on the news. But apparently OG knew. We were outside and noticed a new "bark" in the neighborhood. We were thinking that someone had gotten a new dog. In listening and trying to figure out where the bark was coming from OG had a comment.

OG: Mom I know what it is....it's a Hand Dog. It is...it's a Hand Dog.
Me: A HAND DOG?
OG: You know, a Hand Dog Mom, like Bailey....
ME: (after a little thought and thinking about our beagle named Bailey)...YES, it is a Hand Dog.

What she meant obviously was Hound Dog. But I like Hand Dog better. :)
